Overview

Wordfence Security Premium is delivered through the Wordfence Security plugin listed in the official WordPress Plugin Directory. The core plugin provides an endpoint firewall, malware scanner, login-security tools, live traffic monitoring, and Wordfence Central integration; the Premium tier unlocks selected commercial features rather than functioning as a separate plugin package. Site owners should review the license requirements before deployment because each WordPress installation generally needs its own Premium license key, while a Multisite network uses one plugin installation and one key.

Real-time updates to firewall rules and malware signatures through the Threat Defense Feed.
Premium IP Blocklist protection for blocking requests from identified malicious IP addresses.
Country blocking for restricting access by geographic location.
Security Audit Log for monitoring security-sensitive events such as user changes and plugin or theme installations and updates.
Endpoint Web Application Firewall that integrates with WordPress to inspect and block malicious traffic.
Malware scanner that checks WordPress core files, themes, plugins, content, URLs, redirects, and code for suspicious changes or known issues.
File repair and deletion tools for certain altered or unwanted WordPress files; scan results should be reviewed and backed up before removal.
Two-factor authentication, passkeys, login CAPTCHA, XML-RPC controls, and protection against logins using known compromised passwords.

Compatibility and setup context

  • The official WordPress.org listing states that the plugin requires WordPress 4.7 or higher and PHP 7.0 or higher.
  • Wordfence recommends using a recent WordPress release and PHP 8.0 or newer; older WordPress and PHP environments may carry additional maintenance and compatibility considerations.
  • Supported server environments documented by Wordfence include Apache with mod_php, LiteSpeed, Apache with Nginx as a reverse proxy, Apache with FastCGI, and Nginx with PHP-FPM.
  • Wordfence is compatible with WordPress Multisite when installed and network-activated from the Network Admin Plugins screen.
  • MySQL or MariaDB is required, and Wordfence recommends at least 128 MB of PHP memory available.
  • Sites using Cloudflare may need configuration changes because some Cloudflare features can block the site's own connections, affecting scans, cron jobs, or other Wordfence functions.

Why cheaper?

GPL distribution, no official vendor support

GPL products can be redistributed legally. PluginNest sells affordable access to the GPL files and update workflow, but official license keys, SaaS accounts and vendor support are not included.
