Overview
Yoast News SEO is designed for websites that publish timely articles rather than general business pages or evergreen blog content. Its main practical role is to give search engines news-specific technical signals: a dedicated XML News sitemap, configurable inclusion and exclusion rules, and article schema options such as NewsArticle, OpinionNewsArticle, and AnalysisNewsArticle. Publishers can also configure a Google News publication name and add stock-ticker information where relevant. The product should be treated as part of a broader publishing workflow, not as an application or approval mechanism for Google News. Yoast states that the add-on does not submit a site to Google News, so site owners still need to meet Google’s publisher requirements and review the resulting markup and sitemap themselves. Installation also has an important dependency: Yoast’s documentation says Yoast SEO and Yoast SEO Premium must be installed first. Before enabling it on a live newsroom, test sitemap output, post-type and category exclusions, schema selections, editorial permissions, and interactions with any other SEO or sitemap tools on staging.
